As you sit at your computer and read up on news and blogs, do you secretly imagine being a tipping point? Well, now’s your chance! A tipping point is the moment of critical mass, the threshold, the boiling point. It’s when ideas and behaviors start spreading en masse to every corner of the world. Let’s support an epidemic
Acccording to Malcolm Gladwell (author of The Tipping Point) it starts with the ‘connectors’. Those are the people that link up the world. It moves onto the ‘mavens or ‘information specialists’ – the people that we rely on to connect us to the information we need to know. And it is supported by the ‘salespeople’ . Those amazingly charismatic people who have the skills to communicate the message. The Tipping Point is about creating a social ‘epidemic’.
What has WiserEarth got to do with creating a tipping point?
WiserEarth is about empowering members of civil society to become ‘Connectors’, and enabling ‘Mavens’ to share, re-use and spread our knowledge to the four corners of our planet. Finally, WiserEarth is about empowering the ‘Salespeople’ to spread the messages.
WiserEarth is the only global, non-commercial space that we know of that connects changemakers, supports multi-issue communication, and provides a way to store and share the knowledge that we are accumulating. Now four and a half years on since the community’s launch, WiserEarth.org has grown into a global movement of over 60,000 changemakers living in 243 countries, territories and sovereign states around the world.
One lunch. One step for good. No tip needed!
We know that lunch doesn’t cost the same everywhere. In California, a lunch out could cost about $10 (excluding the tip probably!). In another part of the world, it may cost much less. What if you gave the cost of one lunch in your country? How much further could WiserEarth go to help support that tipping point? Every step we take brings us closer to unifying our actions for good and giving weight to the work that we do.
