Sad that Ning went paid service, WiserEarth will remain free to use and free of ads
![]() |
The internet is a buzz with the news that Ning has ended it’s free service. For many grassroots efforts that means they are looking for a new home. WiserEarth offers free groups to people working on social justice and environment issues. We already have close to 2,000 groups with more people joining the WiserEarth community everyday.

WiserEarth Groups provide the following benefits:
- We are free to use and free of advertisements: There are no charges for using any of the tools provided and unlike other sites, your group is not cluttered with advertisements.
- We offer similar tools to Yahoo!/Google Groups and Ning Networks: A WiserEarth group has many of the standard tools offered by these popular sites. Plus, interacting with membership and content of other WiserEarth groups is easy, encouraging cross-pollination and synergies.
- We are part of the bigger picture: Your group becomes part of a larger social justice and environmental restoration network, allowing you and your group members to connect with others around the world who share the same interests.
- We make it easy and provide ongoing support: Quickly and easily invite and manage members, create customized layouts, share knowledge and build your network. We also offer free ongoing support.

Can ning communities be imported whole as wiserearth groups with members gaining/merging wiserearth profiles?
No that is not possible I’m afraid. You would have to invite your members and port over any key content.
