Can Mindmapping Change Us?
![]() |
From mindmapping to maraichage, the Dakar community discusses how Senegal can benefit from these new resources. |
The March WiserDakar event took place at Jokkolabs coworking space in Dakar, who is also our strategic partner helping with our inspiring community building in Senegal.
After a short presentation of participants, Minielle (member of Jokkolabs and Wiser.org) led the meeting by first introducing speaker Roland Mayerl. We were introduced to the concept of mindmapping innovative projects in the field of sustainable development.

Roland is an architect of innovative project mapping and a changemaker in the field of social living and supporting young people studying in Daraa (Koranic school) of Senegal. Starting off, Roland showed us a few sustainable projects in Senegal that can be developed into the online platform:
- The solar project in Mbour, lead by Women, superfood college,
- Ecovillage project : pacoumbel, testing project, for maraichage, fruit tree, biogaz for cooking, central cooling…
And a list of innovative projects around: social living, food preparing, solar oven cooking, sanitation, clean habitation, telecentre, meet up website…

The idea of developing innovative project platforms is very important. We need to come up with a system of distribution and diffusion, like with local radio and Internet tools to highlight these initiatives.

One of these tools is mindmapping. It facilitates reflexivity and can be very entertaining and fun for youth, uneducated people, and women. Video can also be used to provide the information.
We can work with people locally to translate and teach trainers to utilize the platform. We need to work together for better sharing of information and empowerment of people locally.
Towards Rio+20 we need to work together as a team of programmers, changemakers, and civil society to set up this platform of sharing mankind’s resources and projects in Senegal.
In addition to Roland’s presentation, Bartel Latzoo from Jokkolabs did a presentation of samabaat.com, the platform used during the presidential elections in Senegal to inform people about violence, incidents, and social unrest in different areas of Senegal.
The combination of sambaat.com and Roland’s mindmapping tool could provide an overview of local innovative projects and help Senegal’s decision-making in sustainable development.
Next steps will be discussed around Earth Day and Wiser’s 5th anniversary.
Until then, take care of Mother Earth.
