Wiser Celebrates 5th Anniversary this Earth Day
![]() |
Wiser is excited to bring together members of many environmental and social change communities around the world around Earth Day… Here are some happenings going on at Wiser. |
Wiser has developed several major partnerships to support the movement building work going on around the world:
- Beginning March 26th, a three-month sustainability seminar was launched by the Spring of Sustainability. Co-produced by The Shift Network and Sustainable World Coalition, the free series features talks led by visionary guests and hosts most notable in the field. Throughout the three months, our Communication team will continue providing weekly social media and blog updates on this virtual series. To further support the initiative, our Executive Director Peggy Duvette is participating as an upcoming speaker.
- The Better World Forum 2012 is an online, virtual conference with seminars, screenings, networking, panels and interviews featuring distinguished leaders and teachers including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Bill McKibben and Deepak Chopra. Visit Wiser members’ special forum page to find out more. Your ticket purchase will support Wiser.org.
- The Earth Day Network partnership is another major collaborative effort challenging members to pledge to the “Billion Acts of Green” Campaign also happening around Earth Day. Ideas for “Acts of Green” can include everything: Planting a garden at school or home, changing out light bulbs, organizing an Earth Day event, eliminating the use of pesticides and toxic cleaning products, eating more local food. To achieve this goal together, all events featured on Wiser.org are counted toward the Billion Acts. To take a look at some of the events and actions, visit this group page.
In addition to the Earth Day celebrations, Wiser will be launching an online-based photo competition to showcase the work of members of the sustainable community worldwide.
Over the last five years, many people have helped shape the Wiser network. The premise of this contest is simple: How do you live Earth Day every day? Tell us in 50 words or less, take a picture to illustrate your entry, and upload it to the contest page on our Facebook.
To bring even greater visibility to sustainability leaders across the globe, we are thrilled that 13 new WiserLocal locations have been launched including locations in Beijing (China), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Kolkata, Pune, Mumbai, Assam (India), Livingstone (Zambia), and, most recently, the San Francisco Bay Area in the U.S.

Finally, for its fifth anniversary, you may have noticed that WiserEarth is taking on a new identity as Wiser.org–let us know what you think here. Read more on the identity change supported by the editor community on this blog post.
The non-profit that runs the Wiser website will remain as WiserEarth. There will also be a few design changes on the site happening this week with the platform taking on a fresh look and design.
A new video has been put together to tell you a bit about who we are. Enjoy:
