Phil Slade, fennel is a type of plant, maybe they meant a funnel. When I imagine a funnel I can see how they would use it as a metaphor. As you engage your online community you will notice a funnel effect: the engagement starts with you - the moderator - starting at the wide opening - representing a variety of individuals/followers - it goes down the pipe and it gets filtered as it goes down - at the end of the process you will have a few of the initial crowd responding/participating. I hope that is what they meant, I do not know for sure but I thought this would make more sense. (:) Cheers

What is the meaning of this usage of the word "fennel" ?
"Do you understand the fennel that occurs among your community engagement? There is a fennel."
I'm totally baffled, please explain.
